Publications Schwerer Gustav or Dora the German 80 cm railway gun

This booklet examines the history and use of the enormous 80 cm bore railway gun that was developed by the heavy engineering firm Friedrich Krupp AG at Adolf Hitler’s request. It gives details of the ammunition that could be fired and the complications of moving it between firing sites and setting it up. Locomotives of class 50 and 57.10 were needed to haul 17 trains’ worth of equipment, supplies and personnel. The preparation of the site for the gun could take over a month.
