Publications TEE: Trans Europ Express (VT 11.5)
By Wolf-Dieter Upphoff
20 pages. 24 photos in black and white and colour, map and diagrams, bibliography.
Trans-Europ Express was a prestigious first-class-only network of high-speed trains covering much of western Europe’s rail network from the 1950s to the 1990s. This booklet looks at the VT11.5 train developed by the Deutsche Bundesbahn especially for the service. The distinctive diesel units featured power cars at each end (later classified BR 601) and five passenger coaches. Some were fitted with gas turbine power units (later classified BR 602). The booklet looks at different aspects of the VT11.5 including the equipment specification, the layout of the carriages, the power units and the safety and braking systems.
